Swimming Lessons — America's Swimming Instructor Since 1885
In 1998, the YMCA revised its world famous swim instruction program to incorporate the latest research on learning. Whether a person is afraid of the water or eager to learn, caring YMCA Swimming Instructors emphasize safety, fun, and progressive learning success for each student that promotes a lifetime of fitness.
Parent-child classes starting as young as 6 months teach parents how to safely work with their child in the pool through hands on classes. Pre-school through adult classes are arranged by skill level, and some YMCAs also offer private, semi-private and special needs classes.
Looking for work that is very rewarding? If you are caring, good at working with people, a good role model, and age 16 or older, consider becoming a YMCA Swimming Instructor!
Don't forget to enroll your children in swim lessons! If you have any questions, please contact Bret Wiebe at 719 494 8516.

Swim and Gym
Swim and Gym is a combination half hour gym session and half- hour preschool swim lesson. The class begins with basic rolls, balance work and games to help them develop coordination and motor control. Next kids will move to the small pool and be introduced to the water in a fun and safe environment. They will have an opportunity to become more comfortable in the water, learn basic swim techniques and water safety. This program is designed for youth ages 3-5 years. Call 719 593 9622 for more information.
Swim Team — The Garden Ranch Great White Sharks
The swim team is for children 5-18 years of age. Our goal is to emphasize good sportsmanship and stroke development through fun competition with other YMCA facilities. To be on the swim team the child must be at least 5 years of age and able to swim 50 yards in one of the following strokes; front crawl, back stroke, breast stroke or butterfly. If you have any questions, please contact Bret Wiebe at 719 494 8516.

Lap Swimming
The Garden Ranch Family Center YMCA has a schedule that allocates times for lap swimming and recreational play based on balancing the needs of all members. When there are many users, lap swimmers may circle swim in a lap lane to share the space. Ask your lifeguard if you have questions.
Lifeguard Training and CPR/First Aid
The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is a leader in water safety. Training and managing our lifeguarding program is a top priority for us. To add an extra margin of safety, we recently became the first in our area to install Poseidon drowning detection systems at many of our locations.
The Garden Ranch Family Center offers the following YMCA Certifications: Y Lifeguard, Y Swim Lessons Instructor, Water Fitness Instructor, and more. We also have the following American Red Cross Certifications: CPR-PR/AED, First Aid, Guard Start, Babysitting, and Oxygen. We even offer the convenience of coming directly to you through our Outreach Program.
Triathlon Training
The Garden Ranch Triathlon Training program is designed to condition and strength individuals for triathlon competition. Geared initially toward the beginning triathlete, overall emphasis will be on the goal of completing the three disiplines of a Triathlon consecutively; swim, bike and run. The original goal distance will be referred to as a Sprint. The event is comprised of a 500 meter swim, a 12 -18 mile bike and a 3 mile run. Three such events occur locally each year.
Training sessions are 8 weeks long and are led by our very own triathlete and USATF certified coach, Scott Sinclair. Scott, a National Champion swimmer that was selected to the US National Team, is currently pursuing his Masters at the USAFA. For more information call us at 719 593 9622.
Water Exercise Classes
Depending on community needs, YMCAs may offer Aquatic Exercise Classes including Water Aerobics and Arthritis classes. These classes can also be ideal for people needing exercise that is especially easy on the joints.
